There are a few things in this demo reel that I did not do.
The color grading for most of the clips was done by someone else.
Arrows hitting the door: I made the arrows and did the compositing. The force field effects that show up when the arrows impact the door were added by another artist.
Men running in the field with a castle in the background: I did the tracking and compositing on the shot. I did not make the castle.
Full Breakdown:
:07 - Worms in stomach - Worms and trails made in Particle Illusion and used as displacement map in Lightwave - Composited in AE
:13 - Arrow in ground - Arrow made, textured and rendered as a still in LW - Tracked and composited the shot in AE
:15 - Digital arrows - Animated arrows in LW - broke then into pieces using HardFX - The energy effect of them hitting the door was designed by me but executed by a different artist. This effect was added to the project after I had already composited the shots.
:20 - Sky replacement - I made the sky using PS and LW and composited it in Shake. I did not do the color grading/look of the shot, just the sky replacement.
:23 - Rapture - Photos of clouds mapped onto LW geometry, a bit of volumetric lights and some simple, LW particles. Composited in Shake
:25 - Burden disappearing - Particle Illusion and Shake.
:28 - Boulder falling - Boulder made in LW - Compositing in Shake
:30 - Lions - Modeled, textured, lit, animated, composited lions LW, PS & Shake. Originally, we hired someone else to do these, but it was terrible, so I had to do it.
:38 - Flyover terrain - Vue6 Infinite and maybe Shake
:40 - Valley of the Shadow of Death - Over 50 shots in this sequence - I made the BG plates in Vue, and composited everything in Shake. I made the fire mosquitoes and dragons in LW. Again, we had farmed out the dragons, but ended up having to do them in-house. The fire and a lot of the smoke is stock footage. Looking back on it, I should've worked on the background plates in PS a bit more, but they were supposed to be more hidden in darkness.
1:09 - Fire from the sky - I made the fire columns using Maya fluids, Broke the building apart in LW (hardFX) and finished the shot with stock footage of fire. Composited in Shake.
1:12 - Fire reflected in eyes - Simple compositing of Maya fluids either in AE or Shake
1:13 - Fire in the street - The fire elements are Maya fluids that I made and some stock footage. I composited it in AE.
1:17 - Text on forehead - I Tracked and composited this in either Shake or AE (I tried both). It would've been much easier if we had syntheyes.
1:18 - Burned at the stake - hide the extra - Compositing in Shake
1:19 - Sky - I made the sky in Vue
1:25 - Chariot of fire - The fiery streak element was made in LW. The clouds are stills that I combined and mapped on to a semi-circle in LW - I painted orange and yellow lighting passes for the clouds in PS - animated the camera in Lightwave so I had the Clouds, Chariot of Fire, Light Source outside the clouds, Light Source inside the clouds, then I composited them all together in DFX+ (fusion 4 lite)
1:30 - Castle in the background - I composited the castle into the background using Shake - The castle was made and rendered by another artist. I did the compositing including the 2D tracking and rotoscoping.
1:38 - Entrance to Hell - Matte Painting - I painted out the lights and added more rocky detail in PS. Made smoke elements in Lightwave and composited it all together in Shake.
1:43 - Lake of fire - Elements made with LW with some texturing inPS - the tiny people were made from part of a DAZ model. I either used FXLinker to make all the little copies.
1:45 - added lens flare and rotoscoped around the people
1:47 - Guy falling into lake of fire - I made the rock tunnel and other elements in Lightwave. Added some fire and smoke HVs and some lights for the guy to fall past. I also made one or two lighting passes. I composited it all together in Shake
1:50 - Worms in hand/arm - Same as worms in stomach - I think I had to hand roto the shot because of bad lighting on the green screen
1:53 - Near death experience - Rotoscoped the woman in AE - projected a volumetric light in LW - composited the shot in AE (2000?)
1:55 - Fiery Tunnel - some stock explosions, HV smoke and fire, stock footage and procedurals on LW geometry - composited in AE
1:58 - Thumb guy - compositing experiment - DFX+
2:01 - Disappearing dog - composited two different wobbly jib shots together in either AE or DFX+.
