When the University of Virginia was planning to build a new basketball arena they needed to produce marketing material to help them raise money for the project and to lease the private suites that ring the court.
I was brought in to help model and texture the arena. I was given 3D models that were converted from the architect's CAD models to Lightwave Objects. These files needed extensive clean-up with large parts needing to be completely rebuilt.
The Main Arena
I built some elements (like the center scoreboard and screens and the basketball nets) entirely from scratch. I used HD_Instance (a Lightwave plug-in that was fairly new at the time) to place the 8,000+ seats. Since I was hired to model and texture, these renders are all personal renders and weren't used for marketing.
The Suites
Most of the furniture and furnishings in the suites were stock models that were purchased. I did model the theater seats as well as the room and the cabinetry. After finishing the initial part of the job, I was hired again to work on other areas of the building.
